Profile

Technical depth. Clear communication. Responsibility when it matters.

Portrait of Vinzenz van Dyck

Since 2009, I have developed backends for business-critical platforms as a freelance Java developer and consultant. My projects range from the energy sector and a large vehicle marketplace to online retail logistics.

I use Java and Spring to build microservices for business processes, model domains and integrate existing systems. React and TypeScript complement my backend work. German is my native language; I work fluently in English and have experience in an internationally distributed team. I work remotely and, where needed, on site in Germany.

In business-critical projects, the code is only part of the job; dealing with business stakeholders, unclear requirements and mistakes matters just as much. How I work – since early 2026 also with AI agents – is described under Approach.

2019–2020 — Large online marketplace

Role: Java Backend Engineer

Integrated external services and built backend services for user data and sales events. Used domain-driven design to guide service development.

Tech: Spring Boot · Apache Kafka · MongoDB · RxJava · Kubernetes

2017–2019 — Large online retailer with logistics operations

Role: Java Backend Engineer

Provided domain modelling and consulting for a new returns service. Built a full-stack application for delivery notes and shipping labels, and migrated existing inbound logistics software to new technical infrastructure.

Tech: Java 8 · Spring Boot · AWS · Kubernetes · PostgreSQL · Spring WebFlux · React

2016–2017 — Large automotive community

Role: Java 8 Consultant

Developed reactive backend services for vehicle data and integrated external services. Implemented fallbacks and client-side load balancing to improve resilience.

Expertise

Java & Spring

I develop Java and Spring Boot services for business processes, usage management and sales events, connecting systems through REST APIs.

Tech: Java 21 · Spring Boot 3 · Spring Data · Spring Security · OpenAPI

Architecture & domains

I model business domains, for example for returns processes and rights management. Domain-driven design guides my service development.

Tech: DDD · Microservices · Camunda · Arc42

Reactive systems & messaging

I integrate external services using reactive data streams and messaging. Fallbacks and client-side load balancing support vehicle data processing.

Tech: Spring WebFlux · RxJava · Apache Kafka · RabbitMQ

Data & testing

I develop data services using relational databases and MongoDB. Automated tests and load tests are part of my toolkit.

Tech: PostgreSQL · Oracle · MongoDB · JUnit 5 · Cypress · JMeter · Gatling

Cloud & delivery

I develop backend services in projects using Kubernetes and AWS and migrate existing software to new infrastructure. Container tooling and continuous integration support this work.

Tech: Kubernetes · AWS · Docker · Helm · GitLab · Jenkins

React & TypeScript

I extend backend systems with React and TypeScript frontends, building responsive views and validation for business applications.

Tech: React · TypeScript · Ant Design · Storybook · Vite

Approach

Close to the team, close to the business – committed to the product

I work closely with business stakeholders and product owners, raise unclear points and risks early, and stay calm when things get critical. I take responsibility even when it is uncomfortable.

AI agents with clear responsibilities

Since early 2026, I have worked with AI agents assigned to planning, implementation and testing. I offer this approach for client projects and advise on setting up such teams. It builds on my backend experience since 2009.

  • Measurable goals: Every task starts with verifiable completion criteria.
  • Separate roles: Different agents handle planning, implementation and independent quality assurance.
  • Review every change: Every code change is reviewed, with independent testing alongside the review.
  • A human decides: Agents deliver proposals and results; I make the decisions.

I agree AI use and the handling of confidential data with you in advance; responsibility for my work remains with me.

This website was also built with AI agents, separate roles and independent quality assurance.
